Mood affects memory

“Mood Affects Memory” is a song written by my friend and songwriting partner Martin Mays. It has a strange Eastern vibe and some great stop-start sections, and has long been a favourite of mine. It was a staple of the live Idiopathy set and has appeared in many different guises. This particular version was recorded by Mike Smith at his late, lamented Badger Hall studio in March 1999, and is the first recording to feature Idiopathy as a four-piece band.

Martin Mays: Electric and acoustic guitar, lead vocals
Lyndon Nutkins: Bass guitar, backing vocals and SFX
Richie Symons: Electric guitar
Lincoln Borgartz: The Drums

The video was made from some shaky camcorder footage of us playing at the Grand pub in Leigh in August 1999, where a great night was had by all except one person. The look on the young barman’s face says it all. Our entourage were drunken, loud and lairy and he wasn’t in the mood for any of it!
